AUSTIN, Texas - I've seen my fair share of wild hailstorms, growing up in Lubbock. We always seem to get pelted pretty good. However, I have NEVER seen anything like the aftermath of the hailstorm Austin had yesterday. People were literally raking up piles of hail like they were piles of snow over there!
KEEP SCROLLING: From Some Angles, Lubbock, Texas is Actually Pretty
According to CBS Austin, 72,000 people lost power during the storm, and at least one person was killed. At least 30,000 people were still without power this morning. Emergency services rescued at least 5 people from various locations who found themselves trapped by rushing water due to flash flooding across the city.
Insane Photos
Meteorologist Nick Bannin shared some truly bizarre photos on Facebook last night that show just how much hail was dumped down on Austin. They reminded me of what it was like after a snowstorm in northern Minnesota back when I lived there, except for the fact that the people in the pictures are wearing shorts and not snow gear.

That Storm Was A Doozy
I bet the phones in Austin insurance companies are ringing off the hook today. I can only imagine the damage this hailstorm caused. I've seen photos shared across Facebook by friends in the area of uprooted trees, damaged roofs, and cracked windshields.
Fingers crossed we don't see a storm like that in Lubbock any time soon. Lord knows our city isn't built for rain, and MY windows were not built for hail...
