THROWBACK THURSDAY: The Original Mall in Victoria
Taking it back to yesteryear once again! Today, we remember when there used to be a second mall in Victoria, specifically the Town Plaza Mall. This mall was centrally located, well, at least it was when it was built. Located at the corner of Airline and Laurent St
The iconic JCPenney escalator
While some of the buildings still remain, it looks nothing like it used to back in the day. The flagship store was JCPenney and featured an escalator that became iconic for Victoria. Why was it iconic? Probably because it was one of the coolest things in town for a long time.
I remember eating at this Luby's after church.
Also, this was the original location for Luby's Restaurant and featured a 50s style soda shop in the middle. There was also a Bealls and a Walgreens. Yes, there was a Walgreens in a mall. The demise of this mall started in 1981 when the current Victoria Mall opened.
If I can recall correctly, one of the last tenants in the building was Numistrama Coin Shop. However, I could be wrong. So, if you know or you have any pictures or videos of Town Plaza Mall, please share them with us and send us a message on the app.

The Town Plaza Mall was taken over by the State of Texas before becoming Our Lady of Victoria and the University of Victoria - Houston, now Texas A&M - Victoria.
