Zac Brown Band to Release Dave Grohl-Produced Album in December

Zac Brown Band will release ‘The Grohl Sessions Vol. 1,’ an album produced by former Nirvana drummer and current Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, if the name of the record didn’t already give away the fact that Grohl is intricately involved. It’s out next month!

‘The Grohl Sessions Vol. 1′ will be released on Dec. 10 via Zac Brown Band’s own Southern Ground Artists label. It will of course feature a studio version of ‘Day for the Dead,’ which the band performed live with Grohl at the 2013 CMAs to the delight of country and rock fans.

So not only did Grohl twiddle the knobs for the record – he also appears on it. ZBB are getting their money’s worth (and then some) by working with Grohl.

“Dave is a musical genius,” the frontman, who is expecting his fifth child and first son, said. “It’s been amazing to play with him on stage and get to spend time working with him in the studio. We are excited for fans to hear the music we’ve been able to create together.”

The release also marks the first time that Zac Brown Band have recorded at Southern Ground Studios in Nashville.

Other tracks include ‘All Alright,’ ‘Let It Rain’ and ‘The Muse,’ the latter of which was penned by The Wood Brothers, who are signed to the Southern Ground label.

The traditional Zac Brown Band lineup of Zac Brown, John Driskell Hopkins, Jimmy De Martini, Coy Bowles, Chris Fryar, Clay Cook and Daniel de los Reyes was in place for the recording, with some additional appearances by Oteill Burbridge on bass and Grohl on drums.

In the video posted above, Grohl stated that everyone in ZBB is so good at what they do, making musical possibilities endless. Brown also said he knew in his gut that working with Grohl was the right thing to do, given his body and breadth of work.

It was also Brown’s idea to call it ‘The Grohl Sessions,’ which totally blew Grohl’s mind.

“It is the most flattering thing anyone has ever done for me,” Grohl said with a giggle when claiming how crazy it will be to see his name in the title on iTunes.

Grohl also said, “There is never anything forced about what they do. I swear to God, if I were not in my band, I would be in this band. I am not kidding. I’d be in this band in a heartbeat.”

Brown stated that things are changing for the band, but in the best way. “We’re are a brand new beginning with our sound,” he said. “It’s still us but it’s pushed to another limit, the musicianship, the bar was set higher.”
