Winter Storm Warning Continues Sunday Afternoon for Eastern South Plans and Big Country

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect through 5p today for the Eastern and Southeastern counties of the South Plains and the Big Country region.  Snowfall totals in some of the warning area have already exceeded the forecast 4″ to 8″.

* TIMING...FROM EARLY THIS MORNING TO LATE THIS AFTERNOON.

* MAIN IMPACT...A LARGE BAND OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW...
  OCCASIONALLY MIXED WITH A LITTLE SLEET EARLY IN THE DAY...WILL
  AFFECT MUCH OF THE ROLLING PLAINS. THE HEAVIEST SNOW WILL FALL
  THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS... WITH LIGHTER SNOW SHOWERS POSSIBLE
  INTO THE AFTERNOON. SNOW TOTALS OF 4 TO 8 INCHES WILL BE
  COMMON...WITH LOCALIZED 10 INCH AMOUNTS.

* OTHER IMPACTS...GUSTY NORTH WINDS EARLY IN THE DAY WILL RESULT
  IN BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. DRIFTS OF 1 TO 3 FEET WILL BE
  POSSIBLE. SNOW COVERED AND SLIPPERY ROADWAYS WILL MAKE TRAVEL
  VERY DIFFICULT. TRAVEL IS DISCOURAGED.
