Did you catch the premiere of USA Network's "Real Country" on Tuesday?

The fast-paced competition has three acts hand-selected by judges and country music heavyweights Shania Twain, Jake Owen and Travis Tritt face off in each hour-long episode. Then, the winners from each episode compete at the finale for $100,000 and the chance to perform at the iconic Grand Ole Opry.

The thing is, though, it's not just a competition showcasing up-and-coming acts. It also takes a look at what "real country" is and how the genre can evolve in the coming years. Does incorporating elements of pop and rock into country music—by definition—mean the music isn't country? Or is country music, like all great art forms, influenced by popular culture and listeners' evolving tastes?

You'll see how the judges' picks are answering those questions in their music. The Young Fables (Shania's pick) performed Emmylou Harris’s “Two More Bottles of Wine.”

Then, Copper Chief (Travis's pick) performed Waylon Jennings’s “I Ain’t Living Long Like This.”

Finally, Jaida Dreyer (Jake's pick) performed Bobbie Gentry’s “Fancy."
