The three-mile stretch of US 87 from 82nd Street to just south of FM 1585 will be under construction for the next six months according to a TxDOT press release.

Not only will there be construction, but travel will be restricted to one lane at various times.

Lane restrictions on US 87 due to this construction may seriously bottleneck traffic, so detour and re-route your travel if possible.

As challenging as this construction project may be for travel plans, it brings much needed resurfacing and repaving to both the north and southbound lanes of US 87.

"The project will make needed improvement and repairs to the pavement and is expected to enhance the overall safety of the roadway," said Michael Wittie, the P.E. TxDOT interim Lubbock area engineer overseeing the project. "Crews started work to mill the existing pavement on the northbound passing lanes last week, as well as, beginning working to make bridge and guardrail repairs on the southbound lanes."

Remember that traffic fines double in work zones and often crews are working very close to lanes of traffic. Be safe, and take it slow! We just have to bear with this construction through the summer, they expect completion by this fall!
