Each spring, the Washington Post compiles a list of America's most challenging high schools. This year, two high schools in the Lubbock Independent School District made that list.

The list is complied using a ratio of these categories: the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given at a school in 2014, divided by the number of graduates that year.

The two LISD high schools which made the list are: Talkington School for Young Women Leaders, which placed in the top 1 percent coming in at number 13 overall, and Lubbock High School, which ranked no. 462 (up from no. 645).

Talkington principal Berta Fogerson attributed the achievement to her staff, who are dedicated to presenting a challenging curriculum. She added that making the list is "validating to know that that mission to create a culture of high expectations is coming to fruition."

Lubbock High principal Doug Young said he was "extremely proud" to have been named to the Washington Post's list again, saying also that making their way up from 645 to 462 is a "testimony to how hard their teachers and students work."

Congratulations to LISD and these two exemplary schools!
