Tornado Ravaged Van, Texas Residents Upset With Mayor Golfing During Cleanup
The city of Van was devastated by storms last week. But as parts of the city lay in ruin, Mayor Dean Stone went golfing.
KLTV 7 did some investigating and finally found the mayor in front of the Van United Methodist Church. According to the report, he didn't deny what he was doing and was even brazen about it.
“I went and played golf. You want any other answer?”
When asked if he was concerned about some residents being upset with him, he simply said:
“Well, that's okay. They was never here the 77 hours I never left.”
He also said he didn't feel guilty about leaving because the people he left in charge could handle things.
But still, many around Van were frustrated with the mayor's decision to take the morning off.
KLTV 7 also asked if he would be at the 3 p.m. press conference, to which he responded "yes." However, it turns out he was a no-show.
