Thomas Rhett took his heartbreakingly romantic ballad “Marry Me” to the stage at the 2018 ACM Awards and made every girl in the audience swoon.

The singer-songwriter stood center stage in front of an abandoned-warehouse-inspired set with a full band and a string section on either side, strumming a white acoustic guitar. Donning a leather jacket adorned with patches and his signature guitar strap, the artist gave a heartfelt performance of the song, which, in a clever twist, reveals a story of a man pining for a woman he loves who is marrying someone else.

The strings section sweeps in beautifully, and Rhett stops strumming to focus on delivering the vocals of the tune, which he does with vulnerability and skill.

“Marry Me” is the third single off Rhett’s most recent album, Life Changes, and its accompanying video was released last December. That video was nominated for an ACM for Video of the Year in 2018. “Marry Me” is the third consecutive No. 1 hit off Life Changes.

Rhett was also nominated for Vocal Event of the Year for “Craving You” feat. Maren Morris, as well as Male Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year.
