The Big 12 Conference will take advantage of a new NCAA rule that allows conferences with less than 12 teams to hold a football championship game.

“The addition of a football championship game allows for a 13th data point for our teams under consideration for the College Football Playoff,” said Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. “Work will begin on developing scheduling models and host site options.”

The Big 12 Conference also announced that it will not pursue the creation of a Big 12 Network on television, and nothing definitive has been determined concerning expansion.
The 2015-16 season will be a profitable one for teams in the Big 12. Each school will receive $30.4 million, an increase of 20 percent over the previous year. All 10 league members will receive a full share of the revenue distribution. In addition to distributed revenue from the Conference, Big 12 schools also retain revenue from third-tier media rights deals (Longhorn Network, FOX Sports, Learfield Sports, etc.).
