After winning in a stunning fashion on Friday, the Red Raiders dropped two straight to lose their first Big 12 series of the season.

The Saturday game featured Steven Gingery on the bump for Texas Tech and Longhorn ace Ty Culbreth, with Texas rallying from a three-run deficit with crooked innings in the 5th and 7th.

The loss broke an 11-game winning streak Texas Tech had going in Big 12 play. After two losses this week, Tech's momentum is lagging.

After a come-from-behind victory on Friday and a three-run lead and a monster home run from Stephen Smith, who leads the Big 12 with nine, on Saturday, Texas Tech got comfortable with two outs in the 5th inning. The team put Ryan Moseley on the mound. Moseley then gave up 3 runs over 2.1 innings and took the loss.

The Texas starter, Ty Culbreth, is now 8-2 after a very average line of four runs off six hits, with four walks and four strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Nolan Kingham earned the two-inning save.

The Sunday game also ended with a Longhorn win, but it was a much different route to get there. Rout being the key word.

Sunday was only the second time the Red Raiders dropped back to back games this season and the first run rule since 2007. Yes, the Red Raiders got run ruled 17-1 by the Longhorns on Sunday.

The Longhorns scored early and often with Hayden Howard, the bullpen ace, starting the game going only two innings before five other Red Raiders took turns giving up hits and runs to the Longhorns.

Four different Longhorns had at least three RBIs. Joe Baker had six with a pair of two-run doubles and a two-run home run.

Tyler Floyd scored the only Tech run of the game on a solo home run to lead off the 5th. They only needed 16 more of those to tie it up.

The only good news from this weekend is that the season isn't over yet.

The Red Raiders have a midweek series against ACU and a huge weekend series against TCU this coming weekend. Before finishing the season with Kansas and West Virginia in the last 2 weekends.

With a two-game lead in the Big 12 and nine more league games to go, a lot can happen.

Wreck 'em.
