No. 5 Texas Tech baseball team went to the wire, scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth to give the Red Raiders a 4-3 victory over Sacramento State on Wednesday evening at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.

Tech (9-1) won its fifth straight game while recording its fourth come-from-behind victory of the season.

Junior 2B Corey Raley set the stage for the dramatics with a two-out, two-run double off Hornet reliever Justin Dillon (2-2), to tie the score at 3-3.  Raley finished the night going 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

Dillon, who took the loss, allowed three runs on five hits with two hits and no walks.

Tech posted four of its eight hits in the final inning.

Tech began the ninth trailing 3-1, but had its first hitter, William Hairston, reach base on a single up the middle. Pinch hitter Quinn Carpenter delivered a one-out single through the left side to give Tech runners at first and second base for Raley.

Raley doubled down the left-field line on a 2-1 pitch to score Hairston and Carpenter to tie the game.

Sacramento State decided to intentionally walk junior first baseman Eric Gutierrez, giving Tech runners at first and second base with two outs. A walk-off RBI single by Tyler Neslony wrapped the game up.

Senior right-handed pitcher Dominic Moreno (1-1) earned his first win of the season pitching three scoreless innings in relief with five strikeouts allowing only two hits and no walks

Senior left-handed pitcher Cameron Smith took a no decision in his first career series-opening start as he allowed three runs on five hits in six innings with a career-high seven strikeouts with one walk.

Sacramento State starting pitcher Brennan Leitao also took a no decision going seven innings allowing a run on three hits with two strikeouts and four walks.

Neslony extended his hitting streak to ten games with a sixth inning double. He finished the night 2-for-5 at the plate.  Neslony posted his first career walk-off RBI. He leads the team this season with three game-winning RBI. Wednesday was his ninth career game-winning RBI.

Tech's first run of the game came in the seventh inning on senior shortstop Tim Proudfoot's first home run of the season (6th career).

The Red Raiders and Hornets are scheduled to play the second game of their four-game series on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Rip Griffin Park.
