Thursday evening, in a brief pregame ceremony, Texas Tech Baseball (38-12, 17-4) celebrated winning the 2016 Big 12 Conference regular season championship.

The Red Raiders clinched the outright Big 12 regular season title this past Sunday, their fifth conference championship in program history and first since Tech won the 1998 Big 12 Tournament. According to Texas Tech Athletics, this is Tech’s first regular-season title since the Big 12’s inaugural season in 1997. The Red Raiders also won the Southwest Conference regular season and tournament titles in 1995.

Of the nine schools playing baseball in the Big 12 Conference, Texas Tech is one of just three schools to win multiple regular season titles. The other two schools: Texas with eight and and Baylor with three.

After the pregame ceremony, Texas Tech went on to beat West Virginia 2-1 in the first game of their three-game series.
