Texas Cop Gets Ticketed For Parking in Fire Lane [VIDEO]
A 14-year old girl in Baytown, Texas, showed that just because you’re a cop, doesn’t mean you get to park wherever you want.
Annie James noticed the cop car parked near the leasing office of the apartment manager’s office. The curb is a designated fire lane and when James noticed the car parked there, she decided to write him a ticket for a violation.
The car belonged to one Officer Tommy King, who at the time of the citation was out making his daily foot patrol around the area.
“I came to get my car and I saw a piece of paper on my windshield,” King said to KPRC-TV. “I took it off, read it and started laughing.”
The violation read that King must pay $10 to the office manager for parking on a fire lane. Not only did King pay the ten dollars to the office, but he also gave his ‘citation officer’ a $40 gift card to Toys R’ Us.
“I would say the lesson is not to be afraid of law enforcement, we’re here to help,” he said. “From the officer’s side of things, we learn not to take ourselves so seriously. There’s a lot of responsibility and power that comes with a badge but every once in a while we can step back and say, ‘You know what, a lot of these people we’re protecting, not everyone is a bad guy.'”
