Taylor Swift and 10,000 Spirited Carolers Grant Dying Girl’s Last Wishes
The holidays are a time of giving, and Taylor Swift didn’t forget that. Neither did the 10,000 people who came together to sing Christmas carols for Laney Brown, an 8-year-old little girl who is dying of Leukemia.
Little Laney loves music, Taylor Swift and carols, and she got to enjoy all three things as part of her last wish. She wanted to meet Swift and have people come visit her while singing Christmas carols — both wishes came true over the weekend.
On Friday, Dec. 20 — Laney’s birthday — Swift phoned the little girl, who lives in West Reading, Pa., and they talked via FaceTime so that they could see one another during their chat. Swift was born in Reading, Pa., so Laney’s plight hit close to home — literally.
A post on Laney’s Facebook page reveals that the country crossover star went out of her way to have a real conversation with the little girl:
After we got that under control Laney got to fulfill another one of bucket list items….. to talk to Taylor Swift!!! Laney was so nervous to talk to her because she is such a “famous celebrity”. I was actually worried that when Taylor Facetimed her that she would be to scared to talk but Taylor was fabulous!! She really engaged Laney in conversation. Laney lit up and had a huge smile on her face. I can’t thank Taylor enough for taking time out from her family to make Laney’s birthday very memorable. We will hold that memory in our hearts forever.
On Saturday, Dec. 21, carolers came by the hospital in the hundreds, then thousands, according to CNN. By the end of the evening, they numbered at 10,000. While Laney was too weak to go to the window and watch them sing, she could hear them! She posted a photo holding two thumbs up from her bed, while wearing a breathing mask, to show her appreciation.
Seven months ago, Laney was diagnosed with acute myeloid Leukemia. Last week, her family learned that she has 70% cancer cells in her blood. Doctors have said that the end is very near, so this appears to be Laney’s last Christmas, but many people came together, including a country superstar, to make it memorable for her.
