Tank, the precious rottweiler found abandoned in Lubbock, and his best friend Wylie have been adopted!

A couple months ago, we met Kay'lea Talbott, who told us about Tank, a rottweiler she found abandoned, full of ticks and missing a hind leg, along with Wylie, a dog who wouldn't leave Tank's side.

Our generous listeners came to the rescue, donating enough money in less than a day to buy Tank the special canine wheelchair he so desperately needed.

We visited with Tank after he got his wheelchair, and Kay'lea told us that he and Wylie were now eligible for adoption. Even better, the Lubbock Humane Society was offering a discount if Tank and Wylie were adopted together.

Lo and behold, not three weeks later Kay'lea sent me a text with a picture of Tank, Wylie and their new owners.

Tank and Wylie were adopted together and will enjoy long, healthy lives with their new family. New owners Kolin and Mariah Dursterhaus said they have always had a heart for animals, saying that any time they see a stray, they try their best to help find the owners.

Mariah said that they were actually just looking at Tank and Wylie in their cage at the Lubbock Humane Society when Kasin, their 2-year-old baby opened the cage and Tank just ran out. The lady working their asked them if they would like to hang out with Tank and Wylie for a while, and they agreed.

While they visited, Mariah and Kolin were told Tank and Wylie's story and why they would like for Tank and Wylie to stay together. Mariah said they went to the Humane Society with no intention of "leaving with one dog, much less two," but when they heard their story, the couple "just knew that we needed them."

Mariah also said that their vehicle was too small for the whole family and both dogs, so she took Wylie in one car and her husband took Tank in the other car. She said when they got to their home, Wylie instantly ran over to Tank.

"[Wylie was] sniffing him, like he was making sure he was OK. That right there let us know we had made the right decision," said Mariah.

She added: "They won't leave our sides now. They're perfect. Like they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure. They're family now and we wouldn't have it any other way."

Thank goodness that in this world full of harsh circumstances and horrible acts, stories like this one remind us that there is beauty, compassion, loving kindness and tenderness all around.
