South Plains and Texas Panhandle Snowfall Projections for Wednesday Night into Thursday

The projections for snowfall amounts across the South Plains and Texas Panhandle have been revised upward.

Snowfall will start Wednesday night and continue during most of Thursday. Lubbock, Plainview and the southwest South Plains is projected to get 3 to 7 inches of snow.  Swisher, Castro and Parmer counties, along with Amarillo, is expected to receive over 7 inches of snow.  The western Texas Panhandle, including Dalhart, could get over 10 inches of snow.

Driving conditions will deteriorate Wednesday night into Thursday morning and TxDOT will have maintenance crews and snow plows out to clear streets and highways. Ice accumulations and packed snow will create the hazardous conditions.

Thursday morning lows will be in the upper 20s and low 30s, with a high temperature on Thursday also in the low 30s.

Officially, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the northwest South Plains and Texas Panhandle and a Winter Storm Watch for the rest of the South Plains.
