There are well-meaning coworkers who can make your New Year's Resolutions a little bit harder.

The most common resolution is to lose weight, so when coworkers, I won't name names (Carter) bring in box of candy bigger than a monopoly game, it really tests your will power right out of the gate.  Now, I'm not one that thinks people who bring treats are trying to be mean or even selfish, I really believe most of us just like to bring treats to work in appreciation of the people we work with.

Now, there are many different opinions on bringing treats to work.  This article from Ms. Career Girl claims it can create a more positive working environment.  Others might think the person who buys donuts has a "misery loves company" affliction.  I think it often depends who and why the treats were brought.  If the boss does it, there's certainly a more happy environment.

Overall people are happy when there are treats around, it gets people talking and communicating, even if it's small talk.  Even though I'm frustrated when I'm on a diet and somebody brings in donuts or cookies, there's no way I can be mad with them.  I think you're in more danger of upsetting your coworkers if you bring in a veggie plate.
