Saving Grace Pitbull Rescue In Lubbock Has A Special Guy Named Keuky For Adoption
He's actually not a pitbull, he's a heeler mix, so unfortunately he gets overlooked by people looking for a pit.
I met "Keuky" at an event at Vista College when they were doing $10 micro-chipping for dogs. The Saving Grace Pitbull Rescue had a couple dogs out there by their booth and Keuky was one of them.
He caught my attention because he only had three legs, and we just had "Tank" the Rottweiler in our studio where we helped raise enough money for his wheelchair. I asked the volunteers if Keuky needed a wheelchair and they said "no", he can get around just fine as I found out when I took him for a walk.
Keuky is only 5 or 6 years old and he's spent most of his life at the rescue. He was found near the kennel on Keuka Street (hence his name) and he had been shot in the leg, which had gotten infected and needed to be amputated. Apparently it barely affected the tough guy as he runs and plays like nothing happened.
He was a very calm, sweet dog, he loved to be taken for a walk and from what I could tell had absolutely NO problem with other dogs and seemed to love kids too. I couldn't imagine why nobody had adopted him yet. Maybe some were concerned about his leg? Trust me, he runs around like a normal dog. The volunteers also said he's been longer because he's not a pitbull and people generally come looking for pits. Whatever the reason it's a shame, you seriously won't find a nicer dog.
So, who are Saving Grace Pitbull Rescue? Well, here's what their website says:
Our rescue was founded by a group of friends. We saw a strong need for advocates for Pit Bulls in our community. The Lubbock, TX animal shelter takes in close to 2,000 Pit Bulls each year and euthanizes approximately 80% of Pit Bulls that arrive at the shelter. Overpopulation, abandonment, homelessness, discrimination, and cruelty are all serious issues facing this "breed" in Lubbock and across the nation.
