You've heard of "Save the Whales". Now there is an effort to "Save the Frogs".

There's a group of biology students and researchers at Texas Tech that want to raise public awareness about the alarming decline of the frog population worldwide.

According some reports, up to 200 species have completely disappeared since 1980. Amphibians naturally go extinct at a rate of only about one species every 250 years.

Pollution, infectious diseases, habitat loss, climate change, among other things, could be to be blame. The Tech organizers are out to set a world record for the largest crowd of people wearing frog masks.

There will be about 1500 frog masks handed out at the event which will take place this Friday at 11am in the memorial circle on the Tech campus. The event is free.

Now I understand why our favorite frog, Kermit, sang, "It's Not Easy Being Green".
