No. 10 Texas Tech left 11 men on base, seven of them in scoring position, and fell 3-2 to the Oklahoma Sooners in Sunday’s Big 12 series finale at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

The Red Raiders first four batters of the game reached base safely and lead-off hitter Corey Raley, who walked to start the game, scored but then Robert Tasin (4-1) relieved starter Adam Choplick and got out of the inning without any more damage.

Tasin ended up going 5.1 scoreless innings with six strikeouts and two walks earning the win.

Jacob Evans went 2.2 scoreless innings without allowing a hit,walking one and struck out three in picking up his second save of the season.

Dominic Moreno found out he was starting the game on the mound for the Tech (16-8, 1-2) instead of Sophomore Dylan Dusek, who was scratched from the line up due to a blister on his pitching hand.

Moreno (1-3) took the loss allowing three runs (2 earned) in five innings with four strikeouts and a walk.

The Sooners (17-9, 2-1)  broke a 1-1 tie in the third with a leadoff double and a one-out RBI single from Taylor Alspaugh, who finished the day with four hits, to give OU a 2-1 lead.

The Red Raiders scored a run in the first and seventh innings but ended the game leaving 11 runners on base had three relievers combine for nine innings pitched allowing just one run.

Oklahoma jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning with a leadoff walk, sacrifice bunt and RBI single up the middle from Kolbey Carpenter.

Senior right-handed pitcher Corey Taylor pitched three scoreless innings in relief allowing two hits with one strikeout.  It was Taylor’s eighth appearance of the year in wich he did not allow a run, In his ten appearances this season Taylor has gone 24.2 innings and leads the Big 12 with a 0.00 ERA.

Despite getting multi-hit games from Hunter Hargrove and Steven Smith,  both of whom went 2-for-3,  the Red Raiders hit a paltry .176 for the series.

Shortstop Tim Proudfoot saw his career-high seven-game hit streak come to an end.

Tech will return home on Tuesday, March 24 to host New Mexico for a midweek 2 p.m. contest at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
