Many players will say individual awards and accolades do not matter. Most players repeat the mantra that team success far outweighs the individual accomplishments and post-season awards that are bestowed after the final games are played. But we as fans love hardware.

We loved it when Michael Crabtree won back to back Biletnikoff and Paul Warfield Awards in 2007 and 2008, both awards are given to the nations best wide receiver.

We loved it when Graham Harrell won The Sporting News Player of the Year in 2008. And Kliff Kingsbury, BJ Symmons and Graham Harrell all won the Sammy Baugh Trophy (in 2002, 2003, and 2008 respectively).

Five Red Raiders have been named to Pre-Season Watch Lists for various awards in 2015.

Jakeem Grant (WR,KR), who was on the 2014 Biletnikoffwatch list, was placed on the Paul Hornung given to the most versatile player in college football. DeAndre Washington (RB) was named to the Maxwell Award which honors the nation's top college football player.

Pete Robertson (LB) was placed on the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list, which is given to the best defensive player in college football. Robertson is the returning Big 12 sack leader and led the Red Raiders in 5 defensive categories in 2014.

Jared Kaster (C) was placed on a watch list for the Rimington Award, and Tyler Symmank (P) was placed on the Ray Guy Award, both are given to the top player at their given positions.

Pre-season watch lists do not necessarily mean a whole lot, but these awards can bring credibility to your program and can only help on the recruiting trail. I think we can all agree these trophies will look a little shinier and the victory will taste a little sweeter if the team posts a winning record, but it would still be pretty cool to add a few more trophies to the trophy case.

You can catch these five and the rest of your Texas Tech Red Raiders when they begin the 2015 season September 5 against Sam Houston State.
