Lubbock Power and Light came up with "Project Helping Hands" which gives you a chance to help out the less fortunate in town.

The way it works is, let's say your bill is $103.60. You'd pay $104.00 and the 40 cents extra goes to the project. Even though you might think 40 cents is small potatoes, when you consider the utility has 88,000 bills, it could amount to a much greater amount.

You can also pledge a specific amount if you wish. So far this year 17 families have been helped with the $2,400 raised this summer. The families that are helped are at the federal poverty line of $22,350 for a family of four. Just one way of a community helping itself. Go to this website to sign up or for more info.
