It was an uncharacteristic low-scoring first quarter for the Texas Tech Red Raiders and West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday.

Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes provided one of the few Red Raider highlights in the first quarter with a 46-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Giles.

However, Mahomes in reality threw the ball 60+ yards downfield as he was at his own 45-yard line when he wound up and launched it.

Texas Tech was down by three points at the start of the second quarter, 10-7. Mahomes finished the quarter 7/11 passing for 90 yards and one touchdown.
