Patricia Diana Dennis of Lubbock County will serve 45 years in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of her ex-husband.

According to KAMC News, Dennis pleaded guilty to a murder charge Monday morning stemming from the shooting death of her ex-husband Tracy Dennis in 2014. Following the shooting, Dennis had attempted to take her own life by shooting herself in the head.

A plea deal was on the table for Dennis, but she declined it.

Assistant Criminal District Attorney Sunshine Stanek talked about Dennis' plea deal rejection and the "unique situation" surrounding the case.

"Typically after someone rejects a plea the Friday before a trial, all deals are off the table," said Stanek (quote via Everything Lubbock), adding: "But this is really what the family wanted to see happen, this is such a unique situation, with the family being involved, they did not want to have a jury trial, they did not want to have a trial, and so this is what needed to happen in this case."
