One Dead in Overnight Rollover Accident [Update]

In the late nighttime hours of Tuesday, October 28, a rollover accident at 34^th St. and West Loop 289 claimed the life of one person and left another with moderate injuries.

First responders were informed of the accident at approximately 11:50 p.m. and EMS transported the surviving driver, identified by Lubbock police as Anthony Garcia (19), to UMC. The other driver, identified as Matthew Fuentes (24), was pronounced dead as a result of the crash.

According to Lubbock police, Fuentes' vehicle weaved into another lane and collided with Garcia's car, causing both vehicles to hit the concrete median. Fuentes' vehicle rolled over during the crash.

Road crews closed off several streets to divert traffic from the scene of the crash, and Lubbock Police's Accident Investigation team was called in. The LPAIT continues to investigate.
