No.13 Tech Completes Sweep of New Mexico State With 7-4 Victory

No.13 Texas Tech collected 14 hits in completing a midweek series sweep over New Mexico State with a 7-4 victory on Wednesday afternoon in front of 3,074 fans at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.

All nine Red Raider starters had at least one hit and five collected two hits each in the win.

Third baseman and Lubbock High product Michael Davis went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in three runs to lead the Red Raiders.

Tech scored four runs in the  bottom of the sixth to overcome a 4-3 deficit.

Eric Gutierrez sparked the rally with a two-run double. Corey Raley and Quinn Carpenter also had RBI in the inning in which Tech sent nine batters to the plate in the sixth and recorded five hits and a walk.

Raley has a seven-game hit streak and has reached base safely in 11 straight games .He also leads the team with seven multi-hit games including four in his last six games played.

Junior right-handed pitcher Dalton Brown (1-0) earned his first win of the season pitching one inning allowing a run on two hits with a strikeout.

Tech senior right-handed pitcher Corey Taylor picked up his second save of the season pitching the final 0.2 innings of the game without allowing a hit or a run. Taylor has not allowed a run in his last five appearances.

Tech right-handed pitcher Johnathon Tripp took a no decision in his first start of the season going four innings allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

New Mexico State starting left-handed pitcher Robert Kraft took a no decision going 3.2 innings allowing three runs on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Tech (12-4) improved to 12-1 at home with the victory.

Tech travels to California for the second straight weekend as they open a three-game series with No.28 San Diego State Friday.
