Michael Martin Murphey will be in Lubbock, this Friday night at 9pm at the Office Grill and Sports Bar. Murphey is no stranger to Lubbock, having appeared here several times around the holidays with his "Cowboy Christmas Show".

Michael Martin Murphey is from Texas, growing up in Dallas. He always liked cowboy songs and stories. While out in California in the mid 60's, he became a popular act in the folk clubs in Los Angeles. In fact, at one time he had a band that included, among other musicians, Mike Nesmith, who would later become part of the group "The Monkees"

In 1975 Murphey scored his first hit song. It was from a story about a horse his grandfather told him. As the story goes, when Murphey became older, he had a dream that was similar to his grandfather had told him.

He wrote down the words and music that night. The song would climb to #3 on the charts. It would be Murphey's first gold record.

The song is called "Wildfire".
