Martina McBride and her husband John have been married for nearly 24 years. That’s an eternity in this day and age, as recent stats indicate that nearly one out of every two marriages routinely ends in divorce. McBride shared the secret to her successful, two-decade marriage, revealing that it’s the small things that count.

Sure, weathering those major storms is crucial, as is loving your partner through the hardest of times, to paraphrase McBride’s latest Top 10 single, ‘I’m Gonna Love You Through It.’ But key to a marriage’s survival is the day in and day out communication and support. Being a responsive and caring partner even when it comes to routine, rote and mundane tasks is mission critical.

“Specifically, I think it’s just being a great partner, you know, and seeing what your partner needs and doing it for them,” McBride said about her recipe for marital success, courtesy of her label, Republic Nashville.

She continued, “For me, just the fact that John will call me up to ask me if there’s anything I need on the way home from work at the grocery store. Or he’ll go to the grocery store when it’s the last thing I want to do, you know, or something like that. And he’s always cheerful about it. And that’s a gift in itself.” No wonder the man is a keeper.

McBride and her hubby will celebrate their 24th wedding anniversary on May 15. Happy early anniversary to the happy couple.
