British actor Martin Freeman made his first "Saturday Night Live" hosting appearance last night. The venerable Freeman is best known to American audiences as Bilbo Baggins in the three Hobbit movies.  But Freeman also came to prominence in his native United Kingdom as Dr. Watson in the BBC's "Sherlock" and as Tim Canterbury in "The Office".

Last night's taped skit in the SNL episode combined two elements of Freeman's fame with an unlikely return to Middle Earth.

SNL cast member, Taran Killam, also did a great job at portraying the frequent nemesis in the Hobbit's world.
