One of Lubbock's popular Mexican spots is expanding and it is almost time for it to open on.

Back in October 2021, we learned that The Plaza would be expanding in Lubbock and bringing its great food to Southwest Lubbock.

The Plaza started back in 2001 when Martin and Jose bought the Borger location for the first Plaza Restaurant. Martin stayed in Kerrville while Jose ran this location. Then it expanded to Amarillo in 2003. The third location for The Plaza opened in 2006 in Pampa.

Continuing to expand the Plaza Restaurant family, the land was bought in Lubbock, Texas in 2014 and plans started for a Lubbock location, adding Martin’s middle son, Nelson, as a partner in that project. In May 2016, The Plaza opened in Lubbock. In recent years, The Plaza has also opened in Childress and Dumas.

Lubbock will be the first city to have two locations. It is definitely needed though. The Plaza already does great business at its first location in Lubbock at 5209 Milwaukee Avenue and is always busy.

My favorite thing about the plaza is their stuffed sopapilla or Chile Relleno. Plus if you like drinks, they are one of my favorite places in Lubbock for Mexican food and margaritas. Also, I showed a lot of people the way of getting fries with their Mexican food at The Plaza. I promise I won't steer you wrong, dip it in queso!

Their first location is at 5029 Milwaukee Ave, Lubbock, TX 79424. The new location at 114th and Slide is set to open hopefully two weeks into January.
