Locally-sourced foods and drinks have several advantages over things shipped in from elsewhere: Improved nutritional flavor, improved local economies, less negative environmental impact and, perhaps most importantly, much better flavor.

The Lubbock Restaurant Association is hosting their 7th Annual Great Harvest Marketplace to highlight local and regional food, wine and beer. It appears that the star this year is gulf shrimp. Yum!

Chefs will prepare tastings while live music from Vance Guthrie and Junction 84 plays.

Tickets are available at Riversmith's, the 19th Street location of Schlotzsky's, 82nd Street Caprock Cafe or at the door. The event will be held Thursday, September 1, from 6 - 10 p.m.
