There has been a lot of attention and controversy over the language used during a tent revival put on by The Door Christian Fellowship and pastor Anthony Saavedra at Leroy Elmore Park.

In a local newpsaper, Pastor Saavedra remained unapologetic about using such hate-filled language to describe people who are homosexual, saying that his church preaches against sin and that "homosexuality is a sin."

He went on to say: "When is the last time you saw a church receive this much controversy in the city of Lubbock? All because a truth was pushed. The world may want to candy coat that truth, but we preach the truth."

I don't agree with this on many levels, but the main one is biblical.

Ephesians 4:29 says "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that is may give grace to those who hear."

Ephesians 4:31&32 also says "Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."

There are more examples of where I stand in my video reaction above. I can't speak for this preacher, but I can speak for myself and my walk with God. He didn't call me by screaming hateful slurs related to my sin at me -- and believe me, there has been and still is a lot of sin. We are human and we all sin.

Matthew 7:3 is the verse I live by. It says: "And why worry about a speck in your friend's eye, when you have a log in your own?" Which means my focus isn't on screaming at someone about their sin, but keeping myself right and making sure I'm filled with God's love and live according to His purpose for my life.

Proverbs 10:12 says: "Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs."

And I think my husband always puts it best when he reminds me that when we point a finger at someone else, we have three pointing back at us.

You can watch the original video of the language below. Be warned: it contains some bad language.
