A Lubbock police officer unwittingly became a social media hero after a photo of him single-handedly pushing a stranded motorist's car to safety surfaced online.

A photo of the unnamed officer pushing a car was posted to Facebook Monday (May 23) and shared by the Lubbock Police Department.

According to the Facebook update (which you can see below), the officer was originally helping to ensure a young woman who was having car trouble was safe from traffic as a fellow motorist was trying to give her a boost.

But when that failed, the officer took matters into his own hands, pushing the car several blocks to a parking lot.

Some on Facebook criticized the person who had originally shared the photo for not helping the officer, but many more expressed their thanks to the officer for aiding the young woman.
