Lubbock Police Disperse ‘No Ban No Wall’ Protest Near Texas Tech [VIDEO]

UPDATED January 31, 2017 10:05 p.m.

Lubbock Police announced one protester was arrested after repeatedly going on to a street and blocking traffic.

The identity of the person arrested is 20-year-old Deema Alhesan. She was charged with Obstructing a Highway.

Officially, Lubbock Police began dispersing the protest around 7:45 p.m. after protesters repeatedly walked on to streets and began blocking traffic. According to LPD, officers met with the protest organizers after the protest ended to explain why actions were taken to break up the protest.

About 1,000 people were a part of Tuesday’s protest.

Original Story: Tuesday night, around 8 p.m., Lubbock Police had to disperse a protest at the Tim Cole Memorial near 19th Street and University Avenue which spilled out on to nearby streets. The protest was held across the street from the southern boundary of the Texas Tech campus.

One estimate provided to KFYO News, just after 6 p.m., had about 300 people participating in the protest against President Donald Trump’s recent executive order on immigration.

When Lubbock Police officers arrived on the scene to break up the ‘No Ban No Wall’ protest, the protesters chanted, “Love Trumps Hate! Love Trumps Hate!”

There have been no reports of any injuries nor arrests, but that could change after LPD releases an official statement later tonight.

This is the third protest to be held at the Tim Cole Memorial over the past few months, but the first to require police to disperse the protesters.
