On the Thursday edition of The Chad Hasty Show, Lubbock County Republican Party Vice Chairman Sondra Ziegler, a GOP convention delegate for District 19, joined Hasty in the KFYO studio to talk about her reasons for opposing Donald Trump as the Republican Party's nominee for President.

Ziegler created a nationwide stir yesterday during interviews about an open letter she sent to Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, explaining her position.

Ziegler explained in detail her beliefs as a delegate bound to Senator Ted Cruz and answered questions from Hasty about her position.

During the conversation, Ziegler said:

We've lost a lot of the representative form of government that was built into our Constitution, and the separation of powers and the powers, and the power of the state legislatures, and I would argue that started when the senators started being directly elected at the federal level instead of by the state legislatures. It's a nuance that people forget, that the Republican Party is a private association. It's not a function of government, it's not a government agency, and so the rules of the Republican Party are voted on by people involved in the Republican Party. The platform of the Republican Party, as people that are involved know, those platform planks where it says what we believe in: that starts at a grassroots level and it works it's way up to the national level. We vote on it at the county level here in Lubbock, and every other county does, that has a party, then at the state level, then at the national level. This is a private association that proclaims through it's platform what it believes in. These are the principles that we want to abide by, and it's not a public entity. So the party rules say, the del-, it's not me that says the delegates get to choose the nominee, it's the party rules, and it's the party rules that are operative.

Hasty asked Ziegler, "What do you say to people the people who say that's a vote for Hillary?"

Ziegler responded:

Well, it's not technically. It's not a vote for Hillary, and it's not a vote for Donald Trump. Sometimes you gotta draw a line in the sand and say, 'This far and no further,' and at some point we don't have a party anymore if we can't control the principles that people believe in that run for our nomination.
