David Trout, the Karaoke King of West Texas, passed away this week. But he leaves behind countless happy memories for local residents.

We learned of Trout's passing Thursday night (Nov. 6) and the news instantly caused hundreds to mourn the loss on Facebook.

My first encounter with David was right after I moved to Lubbock.

Chelsea Street Pub was still in South Plains Mall and I was there with a friend. I noticed a long, electronic keyboard with a huge fish on the front of it. I asked our waitress: "So, what's with the big fish?" She replied, "Oh, that's David Trout's keyboard. He hosts karaoke here."

David was always a gentleman, always a professional and will always will be missed.

Skooners is throwing a tribute to Trout Friday and Saturday night.
