Thursday night, the Lubbock-Cooper ISD Board of Trustees approved a name for the district's fifth elementary school campus. East Elementary School will be built southwest of the intersection of 130th Street (FM 1585) and University Avenue.

All five Lubbock-Cooper ISD elementary school are named by their location in the district. North, South, West, Central and East.

"After discussing several options, the Board chose to keep the tradition of a directional theme for our elementary campuses," said LCISD Board of Trustees President Paul Ehlers. "However, considering the continued growth of the district, we will likely have to use a different naming convention in the future."

"This is an exciting time in our district's history," LCISD Superintendent Keith Bryant said after Thursday's meeting. "Lubbock-Cooper is the second fastest-growing school district in the state when measured by percentage growth relative to our enrollment in the past five years. East Elementary will help us accommodate growth and allow us to serve students in subdivisions planned near the site."

East Elementary School is scheduled to open to students in August 2018.
