On Rick's Retro Rack is a singer who's birthday was this past Thursday. John Conlee was born August 11th , 1946 in Versailles Kentucky.

Conlee learned to play the guitar growing and sang with the local barbershop chorus.

He has worked as a mortician and worked in radio as a disc jockey. That is how he made some connections and used those connections when he moved to Nasville in 1971.

He release some songs, but nothing hit until 1978 when he recorded a song he co-wrote with his newsman from his radio station,"Rose Colored Glasses." It went straight to the Top 5 on the country charts and has since become a country classic.

Between 1979 and 1981, Conlee would score two number one singles and four songs that would reach number two on the charts.

He has performed at nine "Farm Aid Concerts" with Willie Nelson, and has raised 13 million dollars for the family farmer.
