LeAnn Rimes Signs New Deal, Announces New Single
LeAnn Rimes will release a new single next week, via a newly-inked deal with a new record label.
The 33-year-old powerhouse country singer has signed with RCA-UK, Rolling Stone Country reports. The label is home to Christina Aguilera, Usher, Snoop Dogg, Alicia Keys, Meghan Trainor, Beyonce, Pitbull, Britney Spears and more. Rimes will release a new single titled “The Story” through RCA-UK on June 24.
Written by Ross Hanseroth, the ballad was first recorded by Brandi Carlile, and it serves as the lead single from Rimes’ forthcoming 16th studio album, for which there are no details as yet. Rimes feels “The Story” serves as the next step along her musical path.
“I fully embrace the journey I am on and have a deeper understanding of how every piece of my story serves a purpose in my evolution as a woman and an artist,” she says in a press release. “This song is not only a love song but a song of self-acceptance and appreciation for life.”
Rimes’ most recent full-length studio album of original songs was 2013’s critically acclaimed Spitfire. It was her final album for Curb Records, the label Rimes signed with when she was just 12 years old. That relationship was commercially fruitful, launching her as one of the biggest child stars in country music history and selling 44 million units over the next two decades, but it was also fraught with conflict. Rimes famously sued Curb to get out of her contract in 2000, but eventually re-signed with the label.
Rimes has scored both country and pop hits in America, while her career elsewhere in the world has centered more on pop. It is not clear what genre she’ll focus on for her new album, but she is collaborating once again with Darrell Brown, who worked with her on Spitfire. That album was firmly rooted in country traditions.
UPDATE: In response to Taste of Country’s story, Rimes turned to Twitter to clarify that “The Story” is being released to the U.K. and international market, with another single to follow for the Canadian and U.S. market.
