A proposed class-action lawsuit filled in California Thursday, March 19, 2015, claims that many popular wines contain more than four to five times the arsenic levels allowed in drinking water.

The lawsuit involves more than two dozen California wine companies, including the popular brands Franzia, Sutter Home, Glen Ellen and Beringer.

Now if you're like me, you enjoy an inexpensive glass of wine from time to time. This definitely has given me reason to amend that practice.

Arsenic levels have come under fire recently in a variety of foods, including rice, apple juice and now inexpensive wines. Arsenic, in high levels, is toxic and a known carcinogen.

The lawsuit, which was filed in Los Angeles Superior court, seeks unspecified damages and a court order requiring wineries to address the arsenic levels in their products.
