The other day I asked Larry Williams of Williams Brake Tune and Tire to share some info to pass along to those who cruise this site and today's tip really surprised me. The E85 gas that the Environmental Protection Agency pushes does in fact reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 15%. However you get worse fuel economy!

The way it works if that Ethanol is the only thing that can be mixed with gasoline to help reduce smog pollutants. Larry says gasoline has a lot of stored energy but the alcohol that's contained in ethanol has less--meaning less bang for your buck.

A 2009 GMC Yukon gets 16 mpg on E85 and 21 mph on gasoline, according to fueleconomy.gov. So, I guess the old saying, "You can't win for losing", really fits here.
