Keith Urban Releases Lyric Video for ‘Wasted Time’

Keith Urban has debuted the lyric video for his song "Wasted Time."

“Wasted Time” is an uptempo reflection on the carefree younger days most of us experienced while growing up; they were aimless but certainly not pointless. The song features an electronic beat throughout, along with hints of banjo -- poppy, but country.

“When I think about those summer nights / Singing out the window on the backroads “Sweet Child of Mine,”” Urban sings in the song’s chorus. “… Ain’t it funny how the best days of my life / Was all that wasted time.”

The song's lyric video, meanwhile, is pretty low key: nothing flashy, just the words playing out on a colored background, with a some pictures spliced in -- teenagers driving around, hanging out by a lake and enjoying the simple things -- that match the tune's carefree vibe.

Urban wrote "Wasted Time" with Greg Wells and J. Hart, and the singer and Wells co-produced the track.

“I worked with a lot of new people on RipCORD, and Greg was one I’d wanted to work with for a long time. He’d been writing a lot with J., and so the three of us spent a couple days at Greg’s studio to jam and see if we clicked,” Urban recalls. “Greg had this cool chord progression, and I grabbed my guitar and started singing a melody. J. suggested the title, and before we knew it, we were talking about growing up and all the things you do, no matter where you are in the world, and the song just took off from there.”

"Wasted Time" is off of Urban's upcoming album, RipCORD, which is set for release on May 6. The song is available for download via iTunes.
