A Lubbock man is accused of tying up, waterboarding and beating another man inside his home, leading to his death by kidney failure.

Jesse Ramos (43) of Lubbock was arrested Wednesday (Sept. 30) and charged with the murder of Jesus Arce (71).

According to the arrest warrant, Ramos attacked Arce in his own home on July 17. During the incident, Ramos is believed to have tied up Arce, then waterboarding and severely beating him.

Days after the attack, Arce passed away from renal failure due to Rhabdomyolysis, which is caused by the "the death of muscle fibers and release of their contents into the bloodstream." Those contents are toxic and can lead to death.

Common causes for Rhabdomyolysis include: use of alcohol or drugs, extreme muscle strain and crush injuries commonly seen in car accidents or falls.

The arrest warrant claims that Ramos believed Arce had drugged and abused two women. Ramos and two women reprotedly invaded Arce's home and tortured him for the location of drugs and diamond rings.

As of Thursday, Oct. 1, the two women who accompanied Ramos have not been charged with murder.

Ramos is being held at the Lubbock County Detention Center on more than $500,000 in bonds following his September 23 arrest for theft and drug charges.
