Voted safe following his first less-than-stellar performance last week, J Rome and his Sugarland celebrity mentor, mom-to-be Jennifer Nettles, took the stage second, performing the 1941 Billie Holliday classic ‘God Bless the Child.’ With the pack of ‘Duets‘ hopefuls dwindling rapidly, did the young hopeful redeem himself this week? According to the remaining three celebrity judges, the answer is an overwhelming yes!

“Oh my gosh — I stood up three times and my foot is killing me,” said an injured Kelly Clarkson. The big-voiced singer wore a floor-length blue gown to cover an injury boot on her foot. “You’re so talented.”

Robin Thicke echoed Clarkson’s thoughts, saying, “I have to agree with Kelly. That was a Grammy Award-winning performance right there. It was like you were doing a Billie Holliday tribute — and you were both superstars up there,” Thicke added, referring to J Rome’s vocal support from Nettles.

“He just murdered that,” added John Legend. The ‘Ordinary People’ singer gave J Rome a bit of constructive criticism last week, but showered the singer with praise this week.

Speaking about her song choice, Nettles said, “J Rome has so much diversity. He can sing a song in a club, or a standard.”

“I want this more than anything else in the world,” J Rome told the cameras just before taking the stage tonight. “Whether I win or lose this show, this is what I’m supposed to do.”

Considering J Romes’ perfect track record at the top of the contestant scoreboard going into last week’s first live episode and public voting, it seems the hopeful is a sure shot for the Top 3 given this week’s stellar performance.
