Janelle Arthur Eliminated From ‘American Idol’
After a strong run that saw her land in the Top 5 this season, country singer Janelle Arthur was eliminated from 'American Idol' on Thursday night (April 18), after unsuccessfully singing for her life.
This was Arthur's third time on the show; she made it to Hollywood week two years ago, and all the way to the Las Vegas round last year before being eliminated. This year she made it all the way to the final five with a winning combination of poise and grace, often choosing material that set her apart from the other singers on the show by showcasing her understated ability to connect with the heart of a song.
Though her performances placed her last after the votes were tallied, Arthur didn't exactly go home empty-handed; not only will she participate in the 'Idol' tour this summer, she also received a personal message of encouragement from Parton on the show Thursday night.
Arthur sang for the season's one and only save by reviving 'Keep Me Hanging On,' one of her strongest numbers from the season. But the judges could not reach a unanimous decision on using their sole save of the season, and Arthur was eliminated, much to the obvious consternation of fellow country singer Kree Harrison, who landed in the bottom two with her friend and looked visibly distraught at her departure.
