Jamie Lynn Spears, the little sister of pop diva Britney Spears, debuted the country-esque song ‘I Look Up to You’ at a showcase at Nashville’s 3rd & Lindsley Bar & Grill recently.

Video of the performance has landed online, and we’re pleased to report that Jamie Lynn — who moved to Nashville back in 2009 in hopes of jumpstarting her career in country music — has a knack for twangy, heartfelt ballads. She can sing and was incredibly believable while delivering her intimate lyrics.

Jamie introduced the song by saying, “You can imagine who I wrote it about.” It’s not exactly going out on a limb or making a leap of faith to realize she is speaking about her big sister, who went through the ringer in public fashion a few years ago, shaving her head, being chased by paparazzi and melting down for all the tabloids to see and feast upon.

The song burns slow, and showcases Jamie Lynn’s vocal ability and songwriting talents. Spears, 21, also looks exactly like her big sister, one of the most photographed women in the world.

She sings, “Scared little girl / Living in a big old world / You’ve outgrown your room / It all happened way too soon / They took away your innocence / We forgot our strong defense.” How touching and sweet. Britney is lucky to have such a thoughtful young sibling.

Footage of Jamie Lynn, who is also a young mom, performing with country singer Pam Tillis surfaced earlier this year. It appears as though Jamie Lynn is making strides on the country scene.
