Country music has a new Entertainer of the Year, and he was just as shocked as anyone. Keith Urban won the 2018 CMA Awards honor on Wednesday night (Nov. 14). His reaction was priceless.

After dabbing away tears and making his way to the stage, the "Never Comin' Down" singer stammered through the usual thank you messages, including his wife and daughters, whom he referred to by their nicknames. Nicole Kidman stood in the crowd watching as Urban took the award. Fanning her face, she was in awe.

"Above all God I thank you," Urban said. "I wish my dad was alive to see this, but I think he's watching over me tonight."

It's not that Urban wasn't deserving. In fact, the 2019 Taste of Country Music Festival headliner been as consistent over the last five years as any in country music, and his tours have consistently found new limits. Musically he's stretched the format further than any artist, but always in artful ways that respected country music's roots.

Above all, fans and voters recognized that Urban is a tremendous talent and representative of country music who deserves a second Entertainer of the Year, his first since 2005. Kenny Chesney, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean and Chris Stapleton were the other nominees.
