The hustle and bustle is on!  Holiday traffic in Lubbock is increasing each day as we close in on the Christmas and New Year's holiday.

We are all busy normally, but add trying to get Christmas shopping, post office trips, parties, kids getting out of school for the holiday to the mix and it makes for some really cruddy traffic conditions.  Thank goodness we don't have bad weather mixed in.

And this is just our everyday driving around. Here's the main thing. We are all in a hurry.  We are all stressed.  We all have a million things to get done in a limited amount of time. BUT, do we want to put a huge damper on the holiday by ending up in a fender bender that could have been avoided, had we just slowed down, taken a deep breath and extended a little courtesy? Even worse, every Christmas or New Year's from now on being under the shadow of a catastrophic accident that just didn't need or have to happen.

Don't even think about drinking and driving anytime, but especially during the Christmas holidays.  According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the daily death toll from drunk driving crashes during the Christmas and New Year's holiday period is significantly higher than during the rest of the year. On average, more than 2,400 alcohol-related traffic crashes occur on Texas roads and highways in December, resulting in 89 fatalities.

We'll be telling you more about New Year's Eve ride programs as we get closer.

It's the season of giving and of loving each other just a little more than we do the rest of the year.  Let's remember that when we are driving around, singing Joy to the World as we cut someone off in traffic or worse, while we cut them off and shoot them the bird.  Peace on earth and goodwill toward all men.  Even on Loop 289.
