New Mexico State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Monday (April 9) morning in Lea County.

KAMC News reports just before 8 a.m., police responded to the crash on West County Road near Marland in Hobbs. Police say a Ford pickup was driving north on West County Road and crossed the center lane facing south bound traffic. The pickup side-swiped another truck that was driving south, causing both vehicle to overturn.

The driver of the Ford, 44 year-old Ector Diaz, was taken to an area hospital where he later died. The driver of the other pickup was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
